SCOC Training Information
Amendments to Executive Law section 837 transfer the responsibility for administering training programs for county correction officers from the State Commission of Correction (SCOC) to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Municipal Police Training Council and Office of Public Safety (DCJS - OPS). The change takes effect on October 4, 2009. In the interim, staff from SCOC and DCJS are working toward a seamless transition of duties and responsibilities from one agency to another. Practitioners in the field should see little interruption, if any, in service. Most correction training personnel are experienced with DCJS protocols for filing course documentation and will have no difficulty transitioning.
Any basic courses that are to start after October 4, 2009, must be given prior approval by the Office of Public Safety. All questions concerning training may be addressed to OPS as directed in a letter which each sheriff/commissioner will have received from DCJS by the transition date.
